Job Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: The School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty member (NTTF) in Sports Communication with a specialization in sports broadcasting. Candidates should have experience and expertise in producing studio sports programs and content, including the broad range of contemporary sports programming across digital and streaming sports platforms. Teaching assignments may include a range of courses in the sports communication program, including Sports Production for Television, Radio and Internet; Sports Television and Radio Performance; and our Red Hawk Sports Network course, among others. Candidates should also be excited to build and teach new sports broadcasting and production courses for this large and growing major as well as contribute to the curricular and co-curricular life of the sports communication program, including the continued growth of student driven content for both distribution and award consideration. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach to the future of sports media, including contemporary show formats and content, the creation of creative show and story concepts, the use of new production tools and technologies (including the growing impact of automation and AI), and new forms of distribution and viewership.
Faculty members also have the opportunity to take leadership roles with a range of signature educational opportunities in the School, particularly including the Red Hawk Sports Network but also including the growth of the School's Los Angeles program, the development of the School's new streaming media platform Hawk+, and a range of speakers and media partnerships. Non-tenure- track faculty members are also expected to conduct office hours; participate in area, School, and College meetings; provide University service as appropriate; and participate in the overall curricular and co-curricular life of the School and the University.
Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have at least a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred). Significant professional experience in sports broadcasting. Experience as a show producer is particularly appreciated. Strong candidates should have a keen understanding of producing and writing for sports broadcasts as well a strong understanding of on-air talent roles in the industry. Teaching experience is greatly appreciated.
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA Founded in 2012, the School of Communication and Media offers a range of dynamic programs in communication and media to a talented and diverse student population of approximately 2000 students. Offering degrees in film and television, social media and public relations, advertising, journalism and digital media, sports communication, animation and visual effects, and an MA in public and organizational relations, the School prepares the next generation of communication and media practitioners and leaders. Sautter III Center for Strategic Communication and the Center for Cooperative Media , the latter of which serves the public by working to grow and strengthen local and collaborative journalism. Recent national recognitions for the School include an Edward R. Murrow Award, several Marconi Award nominations, and two College Television Awards from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and several SVG Sports Media nominations.
