JOB PURPOSE:

The Associate Director Public Policy collaborates with the PPA Program Coordinator (Coordinator) in managing the College's interdisciplinary undergraduate PPA program. This position works closely with the Coordinator to plan and implement the curriculum, by providing input on syllabi, participating in selected class sessions, and consulting with students on class assignments and research projects. This position identifies, develops, and places students in diverse internships in public affairs for undergraduate majors. The Associate Director networks with organizations on and off-campus. The Associate Director provides on-going consultation and conversation with majors and potential majors about course selection, as well as study abroad program alignment with the PPA major. The Associate Director is responsible for hiring, processing personnel paperwork for, and directly supervising one or more student employees in the Public Policy Analysis department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reporting directly to the PPA Program Coordinator, the Associate Director Public Policy works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities: Hire, process personnel paperwork for, and directly supervise one or more student employees in the Public Policy Analysis department. Must complete the bi-annual AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention Training as required by the State of California. Manage the program budget for the office. Maintain communication among the student majors and faculty liaisons from 11 academic departments and interdisciplinary programs. Assist in writing and maintaining the program's web page. Draft annual reports and other reports on the Program's activities. Collaborate with faculty, students and alumni to collaborate in the ongoing development of the PPA program. Coordinate special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree or some graduate education in a science, social science, or public affairs related field is preferred. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience with program administration in government or NGO's is required. Experience at an academic institution is preferred

Identify, develop, and assist students and monitor diverse internships in public affairs for undergraduate majors. Must network with campus and off-campus organizations. Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, customer service and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a highly diverse group of student employees. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments. Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software. Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality. Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College's strategic vision and the division's/department's annual goals. Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

REQUIRED HOURS:

The regular hours for this mid-August to mid-June part-time position are Monday - Friday and to be arranged with the PPA Program Coordinator. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.

ANNUAL SALARY:

The annual salary for this role is between $82,900 and $87,600 with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the College will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include, but not be limited to: education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles.
