Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Bioinformatics Data Analyst to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, particularly with Illumina sequencers, and will contribute to the development and optimization of our cutting-edge enzymatic DNA synthesis process. The role will involve studying and analyzing quality, trends, and failure modes within our synthesis technology. This is hybrid role. You will be required to be onsite 3-4 days a week.
Responsibilities: - Conduct in-depth analysis of NGS data, with a focus on identifying trends and failure modes for enzymatic DNA synthesis processes.
- Perform exploratory data analysis, create data visualizations, and present findings to internal stakeholders to answer questions and help guide decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including molecular biologists, biochemists, and engineers to assist in research and product development.
- Write SQL queries to retrieve data for analysis.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines to support and improve the Fully Enzymatic Synthesis™ (FES™) technology and quality control (QC) processes.
- Evaluate bioinformatics tools for various applications, implementing them within existing QC pipelines or applying them to specific ad-hoc analyses as needed.
Qualifications: - B.S. with 4-6 years or M.S. with 2-4 years' experience in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience with analyzing NGS data from Illumina sequencers; familiarity with ONT and PacBio platforms is a plus.
- Strong expertise in Python, R, and SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL); experience in Unix/Linux environments is a plus.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, or ggplot2, with experience in presenting data insights.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics software and command line tools for NGS data processing (e.g., Bowtie, GATK, Picard, STAR, SAMtools).
- Familiarity with version control (GitHub), Familiarity with containerization (Docker) continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Comfortability with taking ownership and leading data-related initiatives across a subset of projects.
- Commitment to continual growth and learning, staying updated with the latest advancements in bioinformatics and related technologies to drive innovation and improve processes.
Health & Benefits at MAI: - Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will be based on many factors including but not limited to individual performance, location of job, experience and skills required for this role.
