The Department of Family and Community Medicine within the College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking an experienced communications coordinator to assist the AgeAlive team with events and projects to support the AgeAlive program and its continued success.
Responsibilities include Oversee hybrid discussion series, Town & Gown; coordinate MSU AgeAlive’s Awards Ceremony held annually; Compose, review, edit and produce printed and electronic materials for AgeAlive events that include Senior Appreciation Day, Creativity, Town & Gown, Generations Connect Social/Recruitment Event and Awards Ceremonies, 4H Children's Garden and others as assigned. Review and edit content and style upon successful events, research materials in order to provide social media and press releases for electronic media; Oversee social media posts for all AgeAlive events, design, review and deliver all MailChimp eblast for all events for the AgeAlive program. Photography for events including those that will be utilized for social media posts. Assist with web page design, maintenance and content management; Oversee designated student employees who assist with events and anticipate needs and order supplies to maintain appropriate inventory for events and projects; Additional duties as assigned.
The unit is seeking a Self-starter who can effectively work both independently and in a team environment with the ability to serve in both leadership and contributor roles. Demonstrated experience leading projects/events from small to large. Experience developing and managing budgets, including records maintenance for projects/events. Experience managing event-related web pages; updating social media platforms; creating event and promotional materials including flyers, invitations, email blasts, social media graphics and posts, PowerPoint presentations, and other event-related promotions and materials. Experience planning, developing, and supporting virtual and hybrid events and meetings. Demonstrated experience working with clients to learn about projects and work to develop the agenda/content/sessions in a way that enhances the experience and better serves the programmatic goals. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, community partners, and other key stakeholders. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability for accuracy, thoroughness and timeliness in the completion of tasks. Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., Qualtrics, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Outlook for mail/calendaring, spreadsheets, scheduling, virtual learning platforms, graphic design and layout software, internet browsers/web research, etc.), and ability to learn new skills. Proven ability in establishing and working with a diverse network of constituents and community members across race, color, gender, national origin, gender identity, religion, age, height, weight, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, veteran status, socioeconomic class, and other differences. Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in business, hospitality?management, recreation, and event management. One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and managing special events, graphic design, and producing related communications materials. Ability to set and track timelines around established events and their related communications needs. Experience overseeing student employees who help with events.
Position may require software specific to the operational activities of the employing unit. This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet. Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
