Job Title: Data Insights Analyst - Publishing

Location: El Segundo, CA

FLSA: Exempt

Location: Hybrid (onsite on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)

Reports to: Finance and Operations

We are a digital publisher with integrated technology products that you will be working closely with in this role. This role involves mining, structuring, and interpreting datasets while enhancing business intelligence to drive data-driven decision-making. This role requires a balance of technical and interpersonal skills; the ideal candidate will love analytics, communicating their findings, and be energized by working closely with multiple internal departments and external customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement quantitative and qualitative methodologies to analyze sales metrics, content attributes, audience sentiment and demographics, and digital engagement.
  • Extract significant trends and correlations to inform business strategies.
  • Work with the software and product development teams to monitor and improve our enterprise-level data subscription service.
  • Conduct industry research to identify trends, market disruptors, and growth opportunities.
  • Benchmark internal performance against market leaders and competitors.
  • Evaluate competitors’ marketing and distribution strategies.
  • Develop and present reports on key performance indicators.
  • Build interactive dashboards and visualization tools for data-driven decision-making.
  • Provide segmented demographic and product data to marketing and content acquisitions teams.
  • Work with external product customers as a key point of contact to assist them with custom reporting and data interpretation.
  • Act as a liaison between data teams and business stakeholders to gather and organize requirements for the design of optimal data solutions and internal platforms.

Required Competencies:

  • Experience in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and data visualization.
  • Proficiency in database query techniques and languages (such as SQL, Python, R) and advanced Excel functions.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Power BI, Google Data Studio).
  • Understanding of the digital media industry (publishing preferred), and digital distribution.
  • Customer focused, for both internal and external stakeholders. Ability to communicate well with a variety of audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; curious by nature, able to interrogate the data and make insightful connections or hypotheses.
  • Highly detail-oriented and well-organized; able to work in a fast-paced environment and can easily adapt to change.
  • Communicates easily with multiple departments and with multiple levels within the organization.
  • Experience working with data to solve business problems, i.e., generate and communicate actionable insights to business users.
  • Committed to the data education of stakeholders, sharing of information, and empowerment through data.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years, with at least 2 years in media or digital content industries, preferably in publishing, music, or film & TV.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Business Analytics, Data Science, Library and Information Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience considered.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize large datasets to inform business analytics to drive insight.
  • Ability to communicate findings effectively in relatable terminology to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with digital publishing, content distribution, metadata, or rights licensing is a plus.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work with multiple stakeholders to get the information needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work setting.
  • Must be able to work onsite Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from our office in El Segundo.
  • Work hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, flexible, extended hours for special projects may be necessary
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move around the office as needed
