The Daily Star has an immediate opening for an entry-level

General Assignment Reporter with a concentration in government, health and business. 

This is a 37.5 hour-per-week position, with varying shifts. Newspaper experience or journalism

education is preferred, and knowledge of Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie counties

is a huge plus, as are photography skills.

Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated General Assignment Newspaper Reporter to join our newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a versatile journalist capable of covering a wide range of topics, including breaking news, local events, politics, human interest stories, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research, report, and write compelling stories on various topics.


• Develop sources and maintain relationships within the community.


• Conduct interviews and gather information from diverse sources.


• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and balance in all reporting.


• Meet tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.


• Collaborate with editors, photographers, and other reporters.


• Stay informed about current events and trends.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field is preferred.


• 2+ years of reporting experience preferred.


• Strong writing, editing, and research skills.


• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


• Familiarity with AP style and journalistic standards.


• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
