Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking an energetic
Manufacturing Engineer with a drive for success to add to their Engineering team! This role is responsible for support of current production systems to improve safety, quality, cost, and cycle time. Additionally, this position will support the new product introduction process (NPI) through coordination of internal technical teams to ensure successful program launches, and continuous improvement of the NPI process. There will be opportunities to apply and develop hands-on experience in a wide range of manufacturing and engineering disciplines.
Job Responsibilities: - Identify, design, and implement process improvements in assigned areas of responsibility using Lean/Six Sigma tools and MRL standards
- Provide technical support for 7x24 manufacturing facility in assigned areas of responsibility
- Assess and plan manufacturing projects and NPI initiatives by gathering and organizing product and process requirements to create and drive project plans
- Design and develop new equipment for future production systems
- Employ tools such as Design Reviews, PFMEAs, IQ/OQ, Value Stream Maps, GD&T, etc. to support sound engineering practices
- Perform root cause analysis for failure investigations and other data analysis tasks, make data-driven decisions
- Research, organize and author Engineering documents such as ECOs, manufacturing procedures, training manuals, initial production travelers
- Write periodic reports and make occasional oral presentations to management and/or customers on specific projects
- Support non-conformance program and implement preventive actions
- Ensure that health and safety policies are followed
- Apply quality standards to ensure compliance with certification requirements in plant applications
What we need from you: - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 3+ years of related experience in manufacturing
- Experience with GD&T, Product or Tool Design and Engineering drawing approval standards
- Demonstrated results in technical problem solving and project coordination
- knowledge of process equipment operation principles, methods, and process capability
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred: - Experience with industrial tools and equipment preferred
- Experience in aerospace/composites, textiles or industrial engineering systems would distinguish the candidate
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles desired
- Interest and knowledge in composites and ceramics
- Experience in thermal processing
