Job Duties Museum Educators are responsible for presenting accurate, interactive structured education tours and programs in support of the mission and strategic goals of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. This position is a seasonal position (less than 400 hours a year), primarily scheduled during the school year to support students in grades K-12.
Program Delivery:
•Conducts guided tours at Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown to student audiences, incorporating accurate 17th/18th c. history.
•Uses approved inquiry-based and facilitated conversation teaching methodology, historical thinking skills, and questioning strategies to enhance student learning and create an understanding of relevancy between the past and present.
•May be requested to train and teach hands-on programs.
•Incorporates state and national standards of learning curriculum as trained.
•Must maintain a 75% excellent rating on overall tour quality, other ratings must be above 75% excellent/good.
•Works effectively to provide high quality customer service consistent with Customer First standards.
Other
•Conducts visitor surveys and assists with Visitor Research projects by conducing visitor surveys (All employees are required to complete one survey season, with preference on their first year of hire).
•May assist with Busy Day procedures, special events, marketing and development activities, and special programs.
•Notify supervisor immediately of any safety issues or concerns.
•Follows all department and Foundation procedures and standards.
Minimum Qualifications Required knowledge, skills, abilities and or competencies required to successfully perform work;
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Knowledge of or interest in 17th/18th century history and how it relates to today
•Knowledge of or interest in current educational methodologies
•Excellent customer service skills
•Enjoys working with a students and adults of diverse cultures, ages, abilities, and economic backgrounds
•Ability to learn and apply new information in a fast-paced environment
•Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Additional Considerations Experience working with school age children desired but not required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
