Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
- Ensures all necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures are available which includes ensuring case carts are complete and ready as needed, assisting in opening of sterile supplies, and maintaining inventory for assigned areas.
- Assists with the timely turnover of assigned rooms throughout the day. Sets up rooms for next day's schedule.
- Assists with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse/MD. rms various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
- Moves anesthesia equipment to proper surgical suite; checks equipment to verify proper set-up for use.
- Upon completion of surgical procedure, disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes used equipment/instruments; also replenishes supplies and sets up needed equipment for next case.
- Assists in admitting procedure, including taking vital signs, weight, and height and other patient care duties as directed by the RN.
- Ensures equipment is in proper working order. Is knowledgeable in areas of electrical safety and adheres to all recommended safety policies.
- Informs management of equipment failures and is able to resource both internal and external repair sources.
- Supports the Anesthesia Department/Surgery in interdisciplinary and interdepartmental practice improvement and quality assurance activities. Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures established.
- Maintains and promotes effective relationships with and between patients, families, department staff, other hospital departments, medical staff and their support staff and other health care facilities.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices., and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
- Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant.
Experience Required:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously with sound decision-making.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- at, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have functional sight and hearing.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids; therefore, protective equipment (gloves, goggles, and gowns) must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
