Description This position will report to our office in West Chester, PA Monday through Thursday, and allows for remote reporting on some Fridays. The counselor hired for this position must be available on some Fridays where occasional on-site faculty meetings and auditions are held.
Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School is a state-wide, public (tuition-free) K-12 online charter school with a substantial number of students. Summary: The Center for Performing and Fine Arts (CPFA) is an audition-based supplemental program for students enrolled in PALCS and offers a pre-professional arts education in theatre, dance, music and fine arts to students in grades 6 through 12 with exceptional aptitude, maturity and dedication.
The CPFA Guidance Counselor will serve students participating within the CPFA program (grades 6-12). This position is responsible for providing all students with developmental, educational, preventative and responsive services with the intent of encouraging and supporting student learning and achievement.
Essential Duties: - Select courses for new and returning students.
- Complete legal documentation that outlines student accommodations due to medical reasons (504s).
- Collaborate with principal, teachers, advisors, and other faculty and staff.
- Monitor students' academic progress and graduation requirements.
- Assist students with academic and career planning.
- Foster positive personal/social development in students.
- Collaborate and communicate with parents/home facilitators.
- Counseling and/or crisis intervention.
- Complete college recommendation and scholarship forms/applications
- Maintain Guidance course with appropriate resources.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Bachelor's Degree
- PA K-12 Counseling Certification
- SAP Certification a plus
- Ability to design Guidance and Career Awareness courses
- Refer to outside resources when necessary
- Handling academic plans for students who are out of school for long periods of time.
- Responding to a variety of student calls and/or e-mails in an appropriate and timely manner.
- In depth knowledge of Section 504 and IDEA
- Team-oriented, collegial leadership style
- Detail oriented
- High degree of confidentiality
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and coworkers using a variety of modes (email, instant messaging, phone)
- Ability to multitask - manage time effectively
- Proficiency with using various forms of technology (Microsoft Office, email etc)
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management
