JOB PURPOSE:
The Student Publications Coordinator is responsible for managing and supporting student-driven publications within the university, ensuring the quality, consistency, and visibility of student work. The Coordinator provides editorial support, project management, and outreach efforts for various student publications, including scholarly journals, newsletters, and other media. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the university's academic and creative output through effective coordination, publication management, and outreach.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
The Student Publications Coordinator oversees student editors, writers, interns, and contributors involved in university publications. They also manage external vendors and may supervise freelance staff involved in production, editing, or other publication-related tasks. Reports to Director of Students Affairs, Adrienne Packard.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal Contacts: Students, faculty advisors, university communications department, student organization leaders, academic departments.
External Contacts: Vendors (e.g., printers, designers), media outlets, external contributors, and alumni engaged in publication activities.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Editorial and Writing Skills: Strong writing and editing abilities, with attention to detail and consistency.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and external partners.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with desktop publishing software and web development tools.
Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot production and publication challenges in a timely manner.
Budget Management: Experience in managing budgets and negotiating with vendors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
Experience in editing, publishing, or project management.
Proficiency in desktop publishing software and digital content management.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
Compensation Range - $55,000 - $60,000 Howard University
