Job Description

Job Description

MoCaFi is committed to building a financial services platform that helps America's marginalized communities create wealth through better access to public, private, and social capital. We are a fintech built for government and non-profit organizations committed to creating finance for all. Our platform is a turnkey digital banking solution for delivering cash payments, deposit accounts, and wealth empowerment tools at the city, state, and federal levels.

MoCaFi has distributed over $100M in guaranteed basic income, cash assistance, emergency rental assistance, and emergency utility payments in over a dozen municipalities. We are led by a diverse team of finance, engineering, and startup professionals committed to closing America's racial wealth gap. We offer FDIC-insured bank accounts, municipal-funded disbursement cards, and financial empowerment services directly to consumers and through our public and private sector partners.

Job Description:

If you love understanding problems, making daunting tasks approachable and enjoyable, and designing interactions that will, in turn, define the future of MoCaFi, this is the job for you!

MoCaFi is seeking a customer-focused Web Designer to create meaningful and engaging experiences. This individual will design, develop, and maintain our company website, ensuring a seamless user experience that aligns with our brand and business objectives. As an integral part of our Product team, your team will build a website that provides our customers with secure access to their accounts and enable them to monitor their account status. This role reports to the Director of UX/UI Design.

As a growing fintech, we all pitch in to ensure a project crosses the finish line successfully, so you may be asked to do random tasks (Design related), hashing out minute details around prototypes and metrics. There will be questionable ideas to test and validate (or not!) and last-minute deadlines. These are equally important, and we thrive in the hustle of delivering an unparalleled product for our clients and customers.

This role reports to the Director of UX Design. This position is remote unless candidates are based in the NYC area; those candidates will be hybrid to our Manhattan headquarters. The range for this position is $90,000-120,000.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop the user interface (UI) for a client website that allows users to securely log in and view the status of their payments requests.
  • Hire, manage, and develop the web design team.
  • Design Lo-Fi & Hi-Fi comps and prototypes for optimal user engagement.
  • Conduct research and design thinking activities to understand customer and client needs.
  • Develop Information Architecture, navigation, labeling, and search functions.
  • Ensure consistency in design and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Gather and understand business requirements, legal impacts, and KPIs to deliver and measure success.
  • Present design progress and gain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Collaborate with Content Designers, Marketing, and Legal to ensure designs are compliant and consistent across various platforms and materials.
  • Facilitate decision-making between business stakeholders and development teams.
  • Conduct concept, usability, and A/B testing to improve website performance.
  • Create new design components and provide ongoing website support.
  • Manage competing priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ensure website accessibility and adherence to web standards. (i.e., ADA compliance)
  • Stay updated on the latest web design trends, techniques, and technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Centered Design and/or five (5) years of experience, preferably in a startup environment.
  • 3+ years working in the financial services industry.
  • 3+ years of design experience using Figma.
  • 3+ years leading and developing a team.
  • Knowledge of responsive design, user-centered design, interaction design, and UI/UX principles.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with Scrum Agile development process.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, FigJam, Miro, Visio, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in Confluence, JIRA, or similar project management tracking systems.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your design process and thinking.
  • Must be permanently located and authorized to work in the United States.

Why you'll love working here:

  • An empowering workplace that values initiative and critical thinking
  • Work on achieving our financial inclusion mission
  • A supportive and inclusive culture: recognizes contributions and celebrates wins
  • A welcoming environment that appreciates your bringing your entire self to work
  • Time to rest and recharge -- flexible time off policy as long as you can get your job done and make arrangements with your manager to cover you if needed

MoCaFi believes all persons should have equal access to its programs, facilities, and employment. This policy is without regard to race, color, ancestry, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital, or veteran status.
