Job Summary Under the direction, guidance, and supervision of the Manager of Interpreter Services, this position serves as a bilingual medical interpreter for providers, patients and families in both the inpatient and outpatient hospital setting. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $33.78 - $46.08 (Hourly Rate). To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: Required Qualifications High School graduate or Equivalent. 2 years as a Medical Interpreter, preferably within an inpatient hospital setting. Bilingual in English and target language (Mam). Bilingual skills in identifying basic body parts. Bilingual skills in basic medical terminology. Triadic method of interpreting. Basic knowledge of medical diagnosis and implications. Basic knowledge of hospital departments. Demonstrated medical translation skills. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area. Understanding of cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of pediatric patient and family. Working knowledge of computers, including MS Office Suite (Excel,Word). Working knowledge of typing and computer systems. Ability to utilize HIS computer system for entering daily statistics and retrieving patient information. Candidates must successfully complete a Children's Hospital Oakland interpreter skills assessment including testing of language competency. The assessment covers both oral and written skills. Preferred Qualifications N/A License/Certification License/Certification: Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) highly preferred.
